I guess I’m a little late on this, but since this whole blog idea kind of sprung up last night, I’m writing about it now.  Yes, I’m a Red Sox fan, so you could say that I have some strong feelings on how Manny tested positive for steroids.  The story broke on SportsCenter at around noon, and apparently the whole damn world was watching it because between texts and IM’s, I heard from 5 different people within about 2 and a half minutes.  At first, Manny went into denail mode.  It was for a “personal heath issue”, Manny said.  And I believed him.  Foolishly.  It’s been said that Manny was too dumb to commit himself to a cycle of steroids and stick to it.   I guess I pretty much believed that, too.  This is the same guy who went into the Green Monster during a pitching change and forgot to come out.  This is the same guy who, as a left fielder, cut off a throw from the centerfielder.  He’s not the sharperst tool in the shed.

He still hasn’t admitted to taking steroids.  Let’s take a look at that list of people who still deny it, or at least refuse to admit wrongdoing.  Mark “Let’s Not Talk about the Past” McGwire, Sammy “No Habla Ingles” Sosa, Roger “I Have a Third Ear Growing out of My Forehead” Clemens (He did actually say that).  Barry Bonds is at the top of this list, too.  He doesn’t even need a nickname.  Meanwhile, Andy Pettitte, Brian Roberts, and countless others have admitted to their use of PED’s, and have gone on to play out the rest of their careers.

Why is it that the future Hall of Famers refuse to admit anything?  For the most part, the tests prove it.  If the tests don’t prove it, let’s just look at this.

Who are we kidding, here, Barry?  So, to all of the future, or former future, Hall of Famers, please just fess up, and get back some shred of dignity.

Back to my original point about Manny, I’m still in shock.  For years, he has been my favorite hitter of all-time.  It was a pleasure to watch him hit the baseball when he was hot.  Is it tainted?  Yeah, I guess so.  But I will never forget 2004, nor any of the other six and a half years he spent in a Red Sox uniform.  I will still root for him in Los Angeles, or anywhere else he goes, because he’s still the purest right handed hitter of my generation, even if he wasn’t technically pure while doing it.

  1. Well at least A-Rod admitted it, that’s one well he was a future hall of famer, idk now lol…
U sounded a lot like Bill Simmons w/ never forgetting that magical run or what manny had done which is completely reasonable, and not really knowing how it really tarnishes his image in ur mind.

  2. [...] As you know, I was personally disappointed in Manny for testing positive for a performance enhancing drug.  His teammates and Dodger ownership were also disappointed in him because he has yet to address his team about his actions.   Word does come out today however that Manny has in fact flown to Miami to meet with his Dodger teammates.  As I said before, this whole situation has been extremely disheartening for many baseball fans.
